FOR THE AMERICAN HATTER IN YOU
Another Saturday, another game called off. The below freezing weather, and now the snow, in England is really playing havoc with my Saturday mornings. Two weeks in a row now I've been able to have a lie-in. You would think I'd be happy but I'm actually far from it.
Firstly, I've gotten quite use to waking up at 6am on Saturdays now, listening to the pre-show on Diverse FM and then Simon 'Statto' Pitts from seven. It's become sort of religious to me. Normally the rest of my family are asleep so it's me time with my other love, Luton Town. Last Saturday, and now again this weekend, have been weird. It feels like off season, and we all know how boring off seasons are.
That's my personal rant out of the way, but professionally these cancelled games aren't helping either. After getting past Christmas I was quite enthusiastic about the rest of the season not being disrupted too much, instead we haven't played a league game since January 28th. The FA Trophy has played a role in this as games are, for some strange reason, scheduled for Saturdays. I have heard people call for Trophy games to be midweek, like the League Cup, and decided on the night, and feel this is something the conference should be seriously looking at.
There is one positive to this bad weather and that is that Wrexham and Fleetwood have had games cancelled as well. If it comes to a fixture pile up coming near the end of the season, I am more then confident Luton's squad depth will see us through ahead of the two teams mentioned. Although as I say that, I remember this is Luton Town and we never do things easily.
As I was sitting bored out of my mind I came across the perfect solution to having games called off. Step forward Mr Andrew Kingston, our knight in shining armor. Andrew was obviously as bored as the rest of us Hatters and tweeted this on Saturday "Its boring without a Luton game on, I think @SimonStattoP should go down to @DiverseFm watch an old LTFC game and commentate on it for us!" What an idea!!!!! How come someone hasn't thought of this before? It's a win/win for Hatters, as we don't have to grin and bare the crap that is the Premiership and we also get to take a nice trip down memory lane. I don't know what the legalities would be for Diverse FM, as I think they get their feed from BBC Three Counties, but it would definitely be something worth looking into. Maybe we could even get Stu in to co-commentate??? OK maybe not.
Hopefully the bad weather is behind us now and we can get on with some proper football, as I can't take much more of the prima donna league. If not though, and we are subjected to more weather forced cancellations, I for one would much rather hear Simon's jubilant voice telling me how Raddy Antic had just kept Luton in the old First Division than listen to Steve McManaman, who hasn't a clue what he's doing. Luton may have been an afterthought for many people on Saturday, especially with everything that happened in one particular match, but for me, and other Hatters, it was just another day. Void of all excitement.
